Ravichandran Ashwin moves past Anil Kumble. Makes a new record.

Ravichandran Ashwin has broken Anil Kumble’s record for most Test wickets by an Indian bowler. Ashwin achieved the feat on Day 1 of the first Test against the West Indies in Dominica, when he dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite.

R Ashwin now has 479 Test wickets, two more than Kumble’s previous record of 477. He is also the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history, behind Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708).

Ashwin is a master of all conditions, and he has been particularly successful in India, where he has taken 268 wickets at an average of 21.83. He is also a very effective bowler away from home, with 211 wickets at an average of 26.51.
